Musical Director

Our new Musical Director, Evatt Gibson, joined us in September 2023.

Evatt started playing the trombone at school in youth orchestras and wind bands. At university he founded a symphony orchestra whose debut concert consisted of Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony performed in the student union bar!

After a short career in finance, Evatt joined the Army as a trombonist. In 2014 he was selected for the Bandmaster course at Kneller Hall which he completed in 2017, winning the prizes for best overall student and best academic student. He has conducted on numerous high-profile occasions, including for HM Queen Elizabeth and at the Royal Edinburgh Tattoo. He has also been active as a composer, writing music for wind band and fanfare ensemble. He is currently the Academic Bandmaster at the Royal Military School of Music.

Last year he was the Academic Bandmaster at the Royal Military School of Music in Portsmouth, and now is Bandmaster for the Scots Guards based at the Wellington Barracks in London.

Alongside his professional career, Evatt has studied conducting privately with renowned conducting teacher Denise Ham. He has also continued to play the trombone in various amateur and professional groups and also sings in choirs when he has the time!

Evatt lives in Fleet with his wife and two young children. In his spare time he likes to go hill walking and mountaineering, although he mostly spends his time walking to playgrounds these days.
